 Château de Langeais, Loire Valley

Château Langeais, Loire Valley

Langeais is unusual in that it was built all at once, in the 15th century, and virtually left alone since then, until a drawbridge was added in the 19th century. It's right in the middle of the town centre, and very well preserved.

There are several wax tableaux in the castle representing important people and events in its history. The first photograph depicts the marriage of the Duchess Anne of Brittany to King Charles VIII of France in 1491, bringing the independent and very wealthy Duchy of Brittany back under the French crown.

An admission of guilt here, I've lost my notes on Langeais and have no idea who the people are represented in the second photo. Sorry.
