Palace of the Kings of Majorca, Perpignan, South West France

Palace of the Kings of Majorca, Perpignan

This one took me by surprise. We made a spur-of-the-moment decision to see Perpignan, in the foothills of the Pyrenees in France's far south west. Consequently I walked round this castle with no notebook, and unfortunately there was no guidebook seller in sight.

The palace was only occupied for about 90 years spanning the 13th and 14th centuries, but it's very well preserved and nowadays is used as a theatre and event venue. I love the Moorish feeling of the building; Perpignan is close to the Spanish border and the Spanish influence is very strong here.
