Najac, Aveyron

Najac, Aveyron

One of those so-typical little towns of south west France that I love so much! The medieval castle perched on its hill surrounded by the old village, the newer part of the town grows up alongside the old part. In Najac the ‘newer’ part of the town developed around the road that was built for horse-drawn coaches because they couldn't negotiate places like this.

‘Newer’ is a relative term – the newer part of Najac is a broad, cobbled street with delightful old buildings. When you visit, wear trainers, those cobbles are very uneven and hard on the feet. At least you're likely to find a parking place.
