The Cathedral Church of St Caecilia, Albi, Tarn

The Cathedral Church of St Caecilia, Albi, Tarn

The Cathedral Church of St Caecilia, also known locally as ‘God's Aircraft Carrier’ because of its flat roof. The fortress-style Cathedral was started in the 13th century, completed in the 15th, and is the largest brick-built building in the world. The site is the highest point of the city and the Cathedral dominates the view from wherever you look. The building of the Cathedral was a response by Roman Catholics to the spread of the 'heretic' Cathar religion across southern Europe

The exterior of the Cathedral is severe, but the interior is the exact opposite, pictures of the interior are on the next page.
