The Abbey, Brantome, Dordogne

The Abbey at Brantome, in the Dordogne

Brantôme is a pretty little town in the Dordogne departement, on the River Dronne. The Abbey building dates from the 18th century, although there's been an Abbey on this site since the 8th century. That Abbey was founded by Charlemagne, it was destroyed by the Normans and rebuilt in the 11th century. The building now houses the Hotel de Ville (town hall), the magistrature, a school, museum, art gallery, and the tourist office.
